Legacy, part one of many

Anthony writing...I'm completely devastated but am humbled by the outpouring of support from Rachel's friends, family, acquaintances, blog readers and total strangers.  Rachel's cancer advocacy was enormously important to her. Gail Sulik's post below is an amazing chronicle of Rachel's work.

  1. Anthony we are all fighting hard for change with Rachel in our hearts. I too am fighting breast cancer and I too am outraged about this disease. I will pray for you and Rachel.

  3. Anthony,

We do not have the words to make you feel better, much less the power to bring Rachel back, but please know that in Essex, England, tears have been shed.

Our admiration for Rachel is boundless and no string of superlatives could adequately describe her or your decade of devotion so it only remains for us to say that we are here for you in any way we can be.

    Thinking of you

  5. I am so saddened to learn of Rachel's death this week. I'm not a blog reader but I did know of her blog and greatly admired her humour and view of things in the great pink realm. I was very tickled when I discovered she was a fellow Australian.
To her family and loved ones - Find comfort in knowing that she provided a voice for many women.

  6. Anthony,

Our sincerest condolences go out to you and your family at this very difficult time. Rachel was an absolutely amazing woman. I enjoyed exchanging vegan recipes with her and chatting about any and everything. She will indeed be missed and remembered for her strength, courage and determination. Her light will continue to shine in all of our memories. We are all proud of you for picking up her torch and carrying it by continuing to blog about her legacy. We will continue to keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

  7. I have been following Rachel's blog for nearly a year, and tonight I learned of her passing. All I can say is that I am sorry she had to die of this blasted disease, that there was no cure for her, or for any of us, only treatments. We all must carry on the fight, in any way we possibly can. 8. Anthony, I've struggled to know what to say that means anything. Simply, I am just so sorry for your loss. You have been an inspiration to me in how you have handled the last few years. We are all thinking of you as we remember Rachel. She was a wonderful person, I guess I was in awe of her; her strength of personality, her humor in the face of the kind of adversity that would silence most and her sheer determination to fight the horrible disease - all so wonderfully demonstrated on the pages of this blog. I'm just so sorry, Anthony.

  9. Anthony, I am sorry it took me so long to realize what you have been going through, I am sorry I only read her blog last week, I am sorry I missed those BC walks in central park, I am sorry I was never able to give you any support, I am sorry for the time you spent with us instead of being with Rachel, I am sorry I missed last year's winter off-site and seeing her then, I am sorry I will never get to give her the letter I wrote, I am sorry if I cry tomorrow, I am sorry for all the wrong things I might have said to you because I never knew...
I am grateful I was able to meet Rachel even briefly, I am grateful for the inspiration she gave me, I am grateful for knowing you & your strength, I am grateful for seeing how big your heart is, I am grateful to know true love exists and its stronger than anything else in the world, I am grateful to learn more about cancer through her blog, I am grateful to want to live my life to the fullest because of what I now know, I am grateful you were able to share this intimate part of your life with me.
Stay strong, she will always live through you. Always.

  10. Anthony, I am one of those "strangers" whose life has been touched by Rachel's astonishing presence and unswerving determination to challenge the myths and plain wrongs surrounding this hideous disease. I thank my dear friends Sarah and Ronnie for giving me the chance to get to know your beautiful, beloved wife, at first through their commentaries and photos, and then directly by linking to Rachel's blog. What Rachel said, did, and felt has made and will continue to make a huge, huge difference to what happens next. But most important for you to know, is that she will be hugely missed, not just by family and friends, but also by people like me, who never met her. I will be with you in spirit on Saturday, and hope to be part of the tribute Ronnie plans in cyber-space. I suspect Rachel would laugh at that idea! Snarky. A word I had never heard before, and thanks to Rachel one I use often. Rhona Simms.

    1. So pleased and reassured that Anthony has found the strength and inspiration to post on Rachel's blog. As all the posts so eloquently demonstrate Rachel was such an inspiration to so many of us far and wide and gave hope and humour so generously without fear . I know Anthony and all your family will be so comforted and humbled by the impact of the collective response. Shine brightly Rachel , with love and a huge hug . Michael
